Introduction
Let’s be honest, new customers are the lifeblood of your growing company.
And if you’ve landed on this post, you’re probably asking yourself…
“How can I get more customers for my business?”
There are probably over 10,000 ways to do this, but the point of this blog post is to provide 3 simple online marketing strategies that require minimal effort and oversight once you’ve set them up.
…because unless you can wave sidewalk signs like this guy, there are more effective ways to get your customers’ attention.
#1 Do Keyword Research
The best customers to attract are the ones that don’t need a lot of convincing to buy your product or service.
These prospects are already looking online for exactly what you sell, but the problem is that you are nowhere to be found when they start researching on Google.
That’s why the very first step in attracting these customers is doing keyword research to determine the monthly search volume of relevant searches related to your business.
For example, if you owned a restaurant that served Italian food in Boston, Massachusetts, you’d be wise to start researching the monthly search volume for phrases like “Italian Food Boston,” “Best Italian food in Boston,” or location specific terms like “Italian Food In Boston North End.”
Then once you have a list of keywords and phrases that are relevant to your business, you need to make sure that they are displayed across your site.
However, you’ll want to be careful not to do “keyword stuffing,” which is stuffing these keywords throughout your site in a way that doesn’t feel natural to a reader.
Meaning, if your intro page had a sentence like..
We’ve got the Best Italian Food In Boston for people in Boston that are looking for Italian Food In Boston North End.
That would be a perfect example of keyword stuffing and Google would penalize your site for doing this because it provides a low quality experience for the person who discovered your site through a Google search.
The best tools for conducting keyword research for your own website include platforms such as Ubersuggest, SEMrush, Moz, and Ahrefs.
#2 SEO Optimization
SEO optimization is the process of structuring your site in a way that makes it easy for Google to find your website and rank you.
There’s the technical side of SEO, which is placing your keywords where they need to be in order to start ranking.
And to place these keywords effectively, you need them in the following 3 places as a starting point:
- Your Page Titles
- Your H1 Headlines
- Within the first 100 characters of your page content
The other side of SEO is building content like blogs, videos, and other website content pages containing your target keywords.
This tells Google that your site contains valuable information about the target keywords you’re trying to rank for.
So if you’re reviewing your site and your target keywords are missing throughout your pages, you’re missing out on easy traffic and a plethora of new customers that you don’t even have to pay any money for to attract them into your business.
Mind blown? Thought so.
#3 Digital Advertising
The main benefit to SEO is that once your site is ranking, you’ve done most of the heavy lifting and your website can begin attracting customers who are actively looking for what you offer.
Unfortunately, the downside to SEO is that it takes time for your website to start ranking organically in search engines.
This is where digital advertising can be an effective tool in your marketing toolbox because you can pay for premium positioning on search platforms like Google or social platforms like Facebook or Instagram.
But just because you throw some dollars at Facebook or Google doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed a giant influx of new customers.
You need the right strategy to be successful.
That’s why we wrote an entire blog on the marketing funnel to describe the ideal process you should take when filling your sales pipeline with qualified prospects.
Paid advertising is a fantastic way to generate “top of funnel” brand awareness, and through retargeting campaigns, you have the opportunity to stay in front of those who have been to your website but didn’t purchase.
